NEW CHAPTER

New Chapter is a collaboration between, Pøbel, Vardø Restored, Komafest and the communities in Teriberka (RU) and Vardø (NO). It uses art and placemaking strategies to empower the people and the place Teriberka on the Arctic coast of Russia. Over the last 30 years Teriberka has lost 90% of its population. This is a result in part of the centraliaation policy of the Barents Sea fisheries. The majority of the town's historic buildings are now demolished, forcing the locals of Teriberka to vacate their homes. This has also made way for new tourism development.

We worked with the local community transformed a Ural truck and military transport trailer into a mobile library and banja, using building material from 40 dismantled homes. The Ural was exhibited at Høstutstillingen 2018 and SALT art & music in Oslo during the fall of 2018. The art installation functioned as a living organism where audiences, locals, volunteers and artists can make their own mark on. This is meant to be an arena for people to tell their stories about development of and in the North and marginalised communities everywhere.
