YOUTH SIGNAL

Youth Signal is a cultural exchange project connecting youth in Vardø (NO) and Taitung (TW), using analog radio. This project builds on a connection between rural Norway and rural Taiwan that has been based on cultural exchange between the two places over a number of years. Mentored by amateur radio enthusiasts in each country, students use simple radio communication as a low-tech "penpal" method to share stories and build resilience. The project encourages playfulness, connectivity and cultural exchange between the two strategically and geopolitically significant islands and coastal communities in the Arctic and the Tropics. Using lectures, practical and theoretical workshops, to mention some, the students reimagine digital and non digital ways of communication.
